Code of Conduct
CODE OF CONDUCT
The purpose of Nazko Valley Elementary School’s code of conduct is to establish and maintain a safe, caring and orderly school that will enable purposeful learning and positive social development for all students.
Expected Behaviors
At our school, we believe that all children have the right to learn in a safe, caring and orderly environment. To this end, this code of conduct expects educators, parents and staff to work together to create a learning environment that enhances and grows the values of safety and order using an ethic of care that permeates and teaches. All students and staff need to feel safe and valued. All parents need to feel welcomed and part of their child’s growth and the establishment of a learning environment where students learn best.
Be Respectful to Yourself- caring about your learning and yourself, including safety: some examples include:
- Always do your best
- Make good choices
- Be on time and ready to work
- Do your homework and use your planner
Be Respectful to Others- considerate of others’ personal feelings and properties, some examples include:
- Be polite and wait your turn
- Treat others with respect
- Use good listening skills
- Be honest an tell the truth
Be Respectful to Property- caring about your school and your environment, some exampes include:
- Clean up after yourself
- Take good care of materials
- Ask before borrowing
Be Safe- learn and follow school rules, some examples include:
- Walk calmly- no running in hallways
- Stay in designated areas
- Report dangerous situations to staff
Our Code of Conduct is designed to provide guidelines for appropriate student behavior while under the jurisdiction of the school or any school sponsored function. This Code of Conduct applies to students, staff, and parents as well as members of the community while at our school or any school related activity or when their activities impact on the school environment.
Inappropriate Behavior
Inappropriate behavior can consist of, but is not limited to:
- Rudeness, swearing
- Fighting (or play fighting)
- Lack of respect for others, teasing
- Throwing objects, (rocks, sticks, snowballs, etc)
- Defiant behavior, insolence
- Running in the halls
- Unauthorized leaving of the school grounds
- Littering
Consequences
Consequences will be applied in a fair and consistent manner, respecting individual rights, responsibilities, age and maturity; and be restorative rather that punitive in nature.
Inappropriate behavior typically has the following consequences:
- Review of expectations and a timeout
- Review of expectations, written assignment and /or loss of privileges
- Parents are informed
- Meeting with parents
- Short-term (in school or at home) suspension up to 5 days
- Long-term suspension over 5 days or referral to District program
- Consultation with police and /or fire department
- Expulsion
Safe and Caring Environments:
Are Free From Acts of:
- Bullying, Cyber bullying, harassment and marginalization
- Threat and intimidation
- Violence in any form
- Abuse in any form
- Discrimination in any form including: race, color, sex, religious beliefs, ancestry, place of origin, marital status, sexual orientation, family status, physical or mental disability, gender identity or expression, age.
- Retribution against a person who has reported incidents.
Forms of unacceptable conduct cited above are only some examples and are not an all- inclusive list.
Do not tolerate the presence of:
- Theft and vandalism
- Intoxicating or banned substance
- Weapons or replica (toy) weapons and explosives

Intruders or trespassers- all visitors to the school must first report to the office
Notification-
As circumstance warrants, administrators have a responsibility to advise other parties following a serious behavior incident:
- Parent of student exhibiting major behaviors (in every instance)
- Parent of student on the receiving end (in every instance)
- Assistant Superintendent, Safe School team and /or District Staff
- Ministerial agencies and /or School Liaison Officer (Police)
Nazko Valley Elementary School Code of Conduct has been structured to align with and adhere to the standards outline in:
School District #28 (Quesnel) Policies and Procedures and the
Provincial Standard for Codes of Conduct Order. Last up dated September 17, 2024.
